DLP Protects Iconic Italian Furniture Designs in Indonesia
Dwipo, Lubis & Partners IP Law Firm (DLP) has successfully protected the intellectual property rights of its client in Indonesia, particularly concerning the copyrights of two iconic chair designs. The chairs in question are the “EVA” chair, designed by Giovanni Travasa in 1965, and the “GALA” chair, created by Franco Albini in 1951 for the renowned Italian furniture company BONACINA 1889, as seen on the left side of the image above.
The case centered on several manufacturing companies based in Cirebon, West Java, Indonesia, that were producing and selling chairs strikingly similar to the original designs. These infringing products could have led consumers to mistakenly believe that the chairs were produced or endorsed by the original designers and their rightful copyright holders.
Through diligent investigation and legal action, DLP successfully obtained compliance from the manufacturers. They have ceased the production and sale of the infringing chairs, ensuring that consumers are not misled by the counterfeit products.
The team that handled this matter was led by Partner Damar Swarno Dwipo, a seasoned expert in intellectual property law. Damar shared his insights on the case, stating, “This case highlights our firm’s deep experience in handling copyright infringement matters. It also underscores our ability to protect our clients’ intellectual property rights both in Indonesia and across international borders.”
This successful outcome also reflects the firm’s broad global connections, proving their capability to assist both foreign and domestic entities in safeguarding their intellectual property rights. DLP continues to demonstrate its expertise in protecting the interests of creators and companies, ensuring their work is not unjustly exploited, whether in Indonesia or abroad.
Through such cases, DLP solidifies its reputation as a leading IP law firm, offering comprehensive legal services to clients seeking protection for their intellectual property in an increasingly globalized marketplace.
