Indonesia Introduces Revised Official Intellectual Property Fees under Government Regulation No. 30 of 2026
Effective 1 August 2026, Government Regulation No. 30 of 2026 introduces a revised schedule of official government fees for intellectual property services administered by Indonesia's Ministry of Law. The new regulation affects a broad range of intellectual property matters, including trademarks, patents, copyrights, industrial designs, geographical indications, trade secrets, layout designs of integrated circuits, IP enforcement, and the registration of fiduciary security over intellectual property rights.
The Government of Indonesia has enacted Government Regulation No. 30 of 2026 on Types and Tariffs of Non-Tax State Revenue Applicable to the Ministry of Law ("GR 30/2026"), which was promulgated on 2 July 2026 and will take effect on 1 August 2026.
GR 30/2026 replaces the intellectual property service fee provisions previously set out under Government Regulation No. 45 of 2024 and establishes a revised schedule of official government fees for a broad range of intellectual property services administered by the Ministry of Law.
The revised fee framework applies to services relating to:
- Copyrights;
- Patents;
- Trademarks;
- Industrial Designs;
- Geographical Indications;
- Trade Secrets;
- Layout Designs of Integrated Circuits;
- Intellectual Property Enforcement; and
- Other related intellectual property administrative services.
Key Changes Introduced by GR 30/2026
Among the principal amendments introduced by GR 30/2026 are:
- the introduction of an official fee exemption for the recordation of copyrights in songs and musical works;
- revised official fees for various trademark services;
- revised official fees applicable to geographical indication services;
- the introduction of official fees for certain intellectual property enforcement services;
- the introduction of an official fee for the registration of fiduciary security over intellectual property rights; and
- various adjustments to official government fees applicable to other intellectual property administrative services.
Notably, GR 30/2026 represents the first substantial revision to Indonesia's official trademark fee schedule in approximately a decade, reflecting the Government's continuing efforts to modernize and strengthen the country's intellectual property administration.
Practical Implications
The revised fee framework may have practical implications for intellectual property owners, applicants, licensors, licensees, financial institutions, digital platforms, investors, and businesses conducting operations or managing intellectual property portfolios in Indonesia.
Businesses planning to file, maintain, enforce, license, assign, or otherwise commercialize intellectual property rights should take the revised official fee schedule into account when budgeting and planning future transactions or portfolio management activities. Applicants with pending or upcoming filings should also note that the revised official fees will apply in accordance with the implementation of GR 30/2026 from 1 August 2026.
